Event Details

One of the eighty grand affairs at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, July 8-16, 2011.

The Pharcyde (LA)
hip hop

The Pharcyde, from South Central Los Angeles, is one of the most influential hip hop acts to come out of the 90’s. Having collaborated and toured with such names as J. Dilla, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul, the group solidified their place as one of hip hop’s true originators with their stream-of-consciousness flow, a shared love of freaky humor and fearless penchant for honesty. Their Billboard single, “Passin’ Me By” helped their album, Bizzare Ride II the Pharcyde to receive gold certification. Their songs have been featured in such films as Big Daddy and 8 Mile, and one of the group’s members, Bootie Brown, has made a guest appearance on Gorillaz’ hit “Dirty Harry” and occasionally on tour.  With The Extremities featuring Ghettosocks kicking off the night, this is sure to be a hot spot for all you party people and hip hop enthusiasts!

**Please note, Talib Kweli has CANCELLED the Idle Warship feat. Talib Kweli and Res concert .**

The Extremities (HFX)
hip hop / jazz

Get ready for your world to get turned upside down! This Halifax duo brings a fresh blend of killer hip hop, jazz and soul to the stage, combining both live recordings, gnarly VST’s, and dusty sample-laden beats. The Extremities, consisting of Fresh Kils and Uncle Fester, shocked and impressed Halifax audiences with their debut album The New Tonic, which used samples from the album TONIC by East Coast jazz giants Doug Riley, Chris Mitchell, Jamie Gatti and Dave Burton. Hitting the Jazz Fest stage for the third time, this untouchable pair is ready to set another Saturday night on fire with a sound that is a Canadian sound system takeover.

Personnel: Andrew ' Fresh Kils' Kilgour (samplers, keyboard, fx), Shaun ' Uncle Fester' Ryan (turntables), Anthony Rinaldi (saxophone), Tim Croft (rhodes, keyboards, fx), and Ambition (emcee) and Ghettosocks (emcee)
